Jules Bar - Hindley Street

At the forefront of the Disco scene throughout the 70's and 80's featured a smorgasbord of DJ's. This was the meeting place for all DJ's after their own clubs had closed down for the night. It wasn't unusual to see patrons leaving in the morning light. Featured live bands and Adelaide's only revolving dance floor (stage 1) and a more rock & progressive area (stage 2). Had it's own coffee bar (Upstairs) and a chill out area at the bottom area of stage 1. The first video game machines appeared here and had their own dedicated area.

  3. Wow. This takes me back. My boyz and me won the breakdance competition there in 1985 I think it was. Spent too many night there when I was 17. The main DJ in 85 was the best in town. I remember him playing 'Electricity' by Midnight Star most nights. Great club. Fun times.

In Sydney now, and the club scene is shite.

  4. I spent a lot of time at Jewels in the early to mid 80s.

Remember when you had to get a plate of salad as soon as you went inside? lol.
That was because TT was to cheap to get a proper night club license.

I was there the night Sinatra's across the road "caught fire" ;-)

  7. i started going there in the mid 80's there till 2000. I used to dance up a storm and slijp out the door at dawn soaked in my hyper t shirt, happy pants and sneakers. I was there when the upstairs caught on fire. Does anyone remember that night?? ............................ They were handing out sparklers and someone threw one up and it fill into one of the Plastic hanging plants. He then stood under it which is when i pushed him out of the way as the plant began melting and smoke started to plume through the floor. we were all escorted out.. ha incredible times...

    3. We had to serve food back then on Sunday nights as did Lennie's as back then, the law stated you could only serve alcohol on a Sunday after 8pm (and Easter) if you had a restaurant license and food was consumed as well.

  17. OMG such memories! I worked the bar Black Rose late 80's. Those were the days. No glass washer....yuk! and just lil ol me behind the bar with a hundred thirsty clubbers! Finishing early hours and putting sunnies on to cross the road for a knock off drink at Rios (with Erminio on the door!) as all the families arrived for Sat morning shopping! Too funny! Met my hubby there & still together now..Loved Jules on night off and then grabbing a Yiros from the shop next to the Rose!! If not at Jules we'd be at The Hackney, Tavern 63, BBC, Royal Admiral...good ol days!

  18. I remember walking down Hindley Street after a night at the Old Lion Hotel past Jules, as someone else mentioned seeing all the greeks standing outside checking all the girls out as they walked past. Cop cars driving up and down, also use to head for Down Town on some occasions afterwards. They were the great times, if I could turn back time I would. Reckon some of today's youngsters would enjoy the night too.

  27. The DJ you're talking about was Kon K @ Jules
He always played the latest and best imported Dance music ..... He broke a lot of new artists back then ..... I remember that Rios poached him from Jules and then Rios was packed every weekend ..... Anyone knows what he's doing now ? I do recall seeing him work at various venues ..... But he seems to have disappeared !
Maybe he retreated to the suburbs !
I still have 2 mix tapes he did for me .... And they are proper beat mix tapes ..... Someone needs to do a reunion!
